Blue Swimming & Diving Defeats Mount Holyoke

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- The Wellesley College swimming and diving team cruised to a 183-110 win at Mount Holyoke on Saturday. The victory lifts the Blue to 4-1 in dual meets this season, while the Lyons dip to 5-4.

Wellesley athletes won 12 of the 16 events contested, led by two individual wins each from seniors Keelin Nave and Emma Mrkonic, sophomore Charlotte Harris, and first-year Maddie Stern. The Blue also swept the relay events, continuing a hot streak for Wellesley's relay teams. 

Nave grabbed her wins in the 100-fly (59.21) and the 200-fly (2:09.68), while Mrkonic won the 100-back (1:01.18) and the 200-back (2:14.21). Harris was a winner in the 100-breast (1:10.66) and the 200-breast (2:34.03), while Stern swept the diving events, with a 225.90 (1-meter) and a 230.60 (3-meter).

Sophomore Ieva Galinyte and first-year Sarah May also recorded individual wins for the Blue. Galinyte touched first in the 1,000-free (10:51.95) and also finished second in the 500-free (5:24.81). May won the 100-free (56.83) and was second in both the 200-fly (2:09.91) and the 200-IM (2:17.41).

Also recording second-place finishes were sophomore Dorothy Ren, first-year Sharon Wu, senior Gabriela Kovacikova, and first-year Leah Furman. Ren was second in both the 100-fly (59.39) and the 200-free (1:59.30), while Wu was second in the 100-back (1:02.07). Kovacikova was the runner-up in the 200-back (2:17.52) and also nabbed third in the 200-fly (2:21.17). Furman was second in the 500-free (5:19.51), while taking third in both the 50-free (26.16) and the 200-free (2:01.43).

Rounding out the individual swimming highlights were top-three finishes from sophomores Tiffany Chen, Erin Yang, and Suman Kumar. Chen recorded a 2:20.17 in the 200-back, Yang swam a 1:13.24 in the 100-breast, and Kumar finished with a 2:44.45 in the 200-breast.

In the relay events, Wellesley touched first in both the 200-medley and the 200-free. The 200-medley team of Ren, Harris, May, and Nave teamed up to record a 1:52.95, while the 200-free team of Ren, Mrkonic, Harris, and Nave swam a 1:41.98. 

Wellesley is back in action on Saturday at Connecticut College, taking on the Camels and Bates College in a double-dual meet at 1:00pm.
