Wellesley Swimming & Diving Wins 2015 Seven Sisters Championship

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College captured victory in 12 of 20 events en route to its 18th straight Seven Sisters Championship title. The event, which was hosted by Mount Holyoke College, saw the Blue post 1293 points for their 25th overall championship.

Rounding out the field was Mount Holyoke in second with 768 points, while Vassar College was third with 693 points. Smith College placed fourth overall with 583 points, followed by Bryn Mawr College with 281 points.

Records once again tumbled on the final day of action as Wellesley, Mount Holyoke and Vassar all etched their names into history. Fresh off her record-shattering performance on the 1-meter, Blue junior Maura Sticco-Ivins (Framingham, Mass.) posted a win off the 3-meter board with a championship record of 512.80 points. That eclipsed the previous mark of 511.45 points from 2008. Additionally, Sticco-Ivins also posted an MHC pool record with her impressive 515.50 point victory in the 1-meter.

Wellesley's 400-free relay team of junior Dorothy Ren (San Jose, Calif.), first year Patricia Chen (Natick, Mass./Natick), junior Charlotte Harris (Cincinnati, Ohio) and senior Keelin Nave (Minneapolis, Minn.) also notched a solid effort, eclipsing the previous mark of 3:40.82 (also held by Wellesley), for a new record of 3:37.41. 

Individually, two more Seven Sisters records fell during the swimming events, both of which were NCAA 'B' times. MHC junior Cathleen Pruden (Raleigh, N.C.), capped her outstanding weekend with a school record in the 200-breaststroke posting a time of 2:24.20.  She also won the 1650-free (17:41.32) at the start of the final session. Vassar sophomore Julia Cunningham (Yardley, Pa.) then posted victory in the 200-butterfly with a time of 2:05.06. That mark, which eclipsed her old record of 2:06.44, was also a new MHC pool record.
