Blue Swimming & Diving Tops Tufts, 184-116

MEDFORD, Mass. -- Junior Dorothy Ren won three individual events to help lead Wellesley College swimming & diving to a 184-116 victory over Tufts University on Wednesday evening at Tufts' Hamilton Pool. 

The Blue took first place in 14 of 16 events on the evening, paced by Ren's victories in the 100-Back (1:00.56), 100-Fly (58.74) and 200-IM (2:12.25). As a team, the Blue registered the top three times in 100-Back, as Hannah Augst (1:02.37) and Sharon Wu (1:02.96) finished second and third respectively.

In the diving competition, held at Wellesley's Chandler Pool, first year Maura Sticco-Ivins won both the 1-meter and 3-meter events, setting a new school record with her score of 310.30 in the 1-meter (6 dive). Classmate Emily Moore, sophomore Maddie Stern and senior Gabby Cooper-Vespa finished second, third and fourth as the Blue swept the top-four spots in the 1-meter. Stern took second in the 3-meter with a score of 264.45, while Sticco-Ivins posted the top mark at 298.00.

Augst, Leah Furman and Charlotte Harris all won a pair of individual events for the Blue. Augst raced to victory in the 50-Free (25.64) and the 200-Back (2:12.70). Furman won both of the freestyle distance events, taking the 1000-Free (10:57.97) and the 500-Free (5:17.76).

In the 200-Free, Charlotte Harris outpaced a pair of challengers from Tufts, taking first at 1:58.08 after out-touching the Jumbos' Kathryn Coniglio by 13 tenths of a second, as Coniglio recorded a time of 1:58.21. Harris then won the 200-Breast with a time of 2:29.67.

Blue sophomore Sarah May also grabbed an individual victory, out-dueling teammate Grace Bachman to take the 200-Fly with a time of 2:15.01. Bachman took second at 2:16.96.   

Wellesley also won both relay events, as the team of Ren, Harris, May and Augst opened the meet with a 1:51.33 victory in the 200-Medley and the team of Harris, Patricia Chen, Fiona Chung and Furman closed out the Wellesley victory with a time of 3:43.10 in the 400-Free. 

Wellesley will return home to Chandler Pool on Saturday at 1:00 PM when the Blue host Mount Holyoke in a dual meet.
