Blue Swimming & Diving Closes Out Dual Meet Season vs. Bates, Conn. College

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Wellesley College swimming & diving closed out its 2014-15 dual meet season on Saturday, dropping a 203-92 decision to Bates College and and a 180-106 final to Connecticut College.

Wellesley also honored the Blue's three members of the Class of 2015 (pictured) prior to today's tri-meet, as senior tri-captains Grace Bachman, Tiffany Chen and Gabby Cooper-Vespa each competed for the final time at Chandler Pool.

The day opened with competition on the 1 and 3 meter boards. Wellesley first year Maura Sticco-Ivins earned the top score in the 1-meter competition with a score of 285.95. Classmate Emily Moore finished just behind Emma Jarcyk of Bates to earn third with a score of 266.10. 

Sticco-Ivins grabbed her second victory of the day on the 3-meter board, scoring 311.95 to lead a Wellesley sweep of the top three spots in the event. Sophomore Maddie Stern followed with a score of 277.85 while Moore grabbed another third place finish with a total of 272.45. 

Junior Dorothy Ren secured the only other Wellesley victory on the afternoon, winning the 50-Back with a time of 27.09. Ren also grabbed a second place time of 26.20 in the 50-Fly. Ren was third in the 50-Free with a time of 25.09.

Sophomore Hannah August also earned a second place time for the Blue in the 200-Back, touching the wall in 2:13.33. 

Wellesley will return to the pool next friday and Saturday at the Wheaton invitational. Friday's action is scheduled to being at 6:00 PM before continuing the next day at 10:00 AM.
