Blue Swimming & Diving Earns NEWMAC All-Conference Honors in Seven Events
WELLESLEY, Mass. – The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) announced its 2015 Swimming and Diving All-Conference Award recipients on Tuesday, following the conclusion of the conference championship meet over the weekend. All-Conference accolades were handed out to the top two finishers in the each event.
At the conclusion of Sunday's meet, the Men's and Women's Swimmers, Divers and Rookies of the Year were announced. Wellesley College first year Maura Sticco-Ivins was tabbed as the Women's Diver of the Year after earning All-Conference First Team honors as the winner of both the 1 and 3-meter diving competitions.
Six Blue swimmers in five different events also earned 2014-15 NEWMAC All-Conference awards. Wellesley's 200-Medley Relay Team of Sharon Wu, Charlotte Harris, Dorothy Ren and Hannah Augst earned Second Team All-Conference with their second place finish, and NCAA B cut, time of 1:46.47 on day two of the championships. In addition, Ren was also named Second Team All-Conference in the 100-Back thanks to her B cut time of 57.50.
The Blue's 400-Medley Relay team of Harris, Ren, Augst and Leah Furman also earned All-Conference Second Team recognition with a time of 3.33.02 in the weekend's final event. Furman added an individual All-Conference Second Team honor with her time of 1:53.76 in the 200-Free.
Finally, sophomore Sarah May capped her weekend with a time of 2:08.78 to earn All-Conference Second Team in the 200-Fly. Earlier in the day, May recorded an NCAA B cut in the preliminary rounds with a time of 2:08.78.
The Wellesley Diving Team will be in action this weekend, as Sticco-Ivins and fellow first year Emily Moore, sophomore Maddie Stern and senior Gabby Cooper-Vespa will travel to the 2015 NCAA Diving Regionals on Friday and Saturday at Springfield College.
