Swimming & Diving Sets Two Pool Records in Tri-Meet Sweep at Trinity

HARTFORD, Conn. – Sophomore diver Maura Sticco-Ivins (Framingham, Mass.) set a new school 3-meter diving record, and Wellesley College swimming & diving broke two-pool records, en route to a 169-131 victory over Hamilton College and a 223-58 triumph over Trinity College (Conn.) during a tri-meet on Saturday at the Trinity Natatorium.

Sticco-Ivins broke her own school record, and established a new Trinity Natatorium pool record, with a score of 329.30 on the 3-meter board. Sticco-Ivins also finished first in the 1-meter diving event with a score of 269.85.

The Blue's 200 Yard Medley Relay team opened the day with a pool-record setting performance, as first year Cathy Chen (Parsippany, N.J.), seniors Charlotte Harris (Cincinnati, Ohio), Dorothy Ren (San Jose, Calif.) and Ieva Galinyte (Irvine, Calif.) combined for a time of 1:50.81 to finish first.

Harris and Ren would each go on to win two more events to help pace the Blue to victories over the Bantams and Continentals. Harris took home first place in the 200 Freestyle, winning the event with a time of 2:00.91. She also won the 200 Breaststroke in 2:31.41. Ren captured victories in the 100 Backstroke and the 100 Butterfly, touching the wall with a time of 1:00.25 in the 100-Back and finishing under a minute in the 100-Fly with a time of 59.18.

Sunny Chiang (Troy, Mich.) was the third swimmer to earn a pair of victories for the Blue before the day ended. The first year touched the wall first in the 200 Backstroke in 2:15.19, before going on to win the 200 IM with a time of 2:18.84.

Galinyte also added her own individual win following the Blue's opening victory in the 200 Medley Relay, clocking in at 11:07.97 to take first in the 1000 Yard Freestyle.

Sophomore Lindsey Wu's (Livingston, N.J.) victory in the 100 Breaststroke gave the Blue 12 event victories on the day, as she out-touched teammate Erin Yang (Southborough, Mass.) with a time of 1:11.13 in the event. Yang finished second in 1:11.67.

Wellesley swimming & diving will close out the first semester schedule at the three-day MIT Winter Invitational, Friday-Sunday, December 4-6.
