Swimming & Diving Celebrates Senior Day vs. Bates, Conn. College

WELLESLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College swimming & diving dropped a pair of match-ups to Bates College and Connecticut College during a tri-meet on Saturday at Chandler Pool. Bates defeated the Blue 189-111, while Conn. College earned a narrow 161-132 victory. Wellesley is now 7-3 overall in dual meets. 

Saturday's meet was the final home contest of the season for the Blue, and the final home contest in the collegiate careers of Wellesley seniors Ieva Galinyte (Irvine, Calif.), Charlotte Harris (Cincinnati, Ohio), Theresa Mitchell (Brownstown Township, Mich.), Misha Olynyk (Redmond, Wash.), Dorothy Ren (San Jose, Calif.) and Erin Yang (Southborough, Mass.).

The Blue won three events on the day, with two of the wins coming courtesy of sophomore diver Maura Sticco-Ivins (Framingham, Mass.). Sticco-Ivins totaled 306.55 points to win the 1-meter, before returning later in the day to post a win on the 3-meter board with a score of 338.15. Classmate Emily Moore (Milwaukee, Wis.) was the runner-up in both events, scoring 297.85 on the 1-meter board and 309.70 on the 3-meter.

Ren capped her Chandler Pool career with a victory in the 100 Back. Wellesley's school record holder in the event (57.03 in 2013), Ren recorded a time of 58.54.

Wellesley was the runner-up in both relay events, opening the day with a time of 1:49.22 in the 200 Medley Relay behind the efforts of first year Cathy Chen (Parsippany, N.J.), Harris, Ren and Galinyte. The same quartet would then close the day with a runner-up performance in the 200 Free Relay, combining for a time of 1:39.49.

Ren and first year Karen Wang (Holmdel, N.J.) each added runner-up performances in the 100 Fly and the 200 IM, respectively. Ren touched the wall with a time of 58.81 to take second in the 100 Fly, while Wang recorded a mark of 2:12.13 to finish as the runner-up in the final individual event of the afternoon.
