On To Greensboro: Sticco-Ivins Wins 1-Meter Title, Advances to NCAAs

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Wellesley College sophomore Maura Sticco-Ivins (Framingham, Mass.) recorded a total score of 520.85 to win the women's 1-Meter regional title as Wellesley hosted the 2016 NCAA Division III Northeast-North Regional Diving Championships on Saturday afternoon at Chandler Pool. The defending 3-Meter National Champion, Sticco-Ivins swept both boards on the weekend to qualify for the NCAA National Championships for the second year in a row. 

WPI senior Veronica Nikolaki (Athens, Greece) was the runner-up in the women's 1-Meter with a score of 436.25. Rensselear senior Madeline Miller (Yardley, Pa.) posted her second third place finish of the weekend with a score of 435.95.

In the men's 3-Meter event, Tufts University junior Matthew Rohrer (Katonah, N.Y.) scored 499.00 points to take first place. Senior William Porter of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and sophomore Sam Hoyt (Glastonbury, Conn.) of Union College took second and third, respectively. Porter, last night's 1-Meter event winner, scored 477.15 points, while Hoyt totaled 469.45 points.

The 2016 NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships will take place March 16-19, 2016 at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, N.C. A total of six women's and six men's qualifying spots were awarded following this weekend's regional competition.

Sticco-Ivins, Nikolaki and Miller all advanced to the championships following today's action. They will be joined by first year Morgan Matrana (Moraga, Calif.) of MIT, junior Ariana Ross (New Canaan, Conn.) of Williams College and senior Cecelia Arrison (Ivoryton, Conn.) of Smith College.

On the men's side, Porter, Rohrer and Hoyt will accompany sophomore Brandon Pearson (Wayzata, Minn.) of Wesleyan (Conn.), first year Matthew Edkins (Hunlock Creek, Pa.) of St. Lawrence and first year Mitchell Ryan (Salem, Conn.) of Bowdoin College.

Wellesley sophomore Emily Moore (Milwaukee, Wis.) added a tenth place finish on the 1-Meter board with a score of 401.40. Following her fourth place finish in the 3-Meter on Friday evening, Moore is the region's 3-Meter alternate for the NCAA Championships. Also in action for the host Blue, junior Maddie Stern (Phoenix, Ariz.) took 13th place in the 1-Meter, scoring 381.30 points.
