Swimming & Diving Continues MIT Invite With Strong Showing on Saturday

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Wellesley College continued the three-day MIT Invitational on Saturday at the Zesiger Center, opening with preliminary competition during the day before finishing with finals in nine events in the evening.

Wellesley's 200-Free Relay team of Crystal Zhu (Chelmsford, Mass.), Francesca Dong (Princeton Junction, N.J.), Sunny Chiang (Troy, Mich.) and Cathy Chen (Natick, Mass.) earned the Blue's best finish during Saturday night's finals, taking sixth in 1:40.29. Wellesley's B relay of Jessie Feng (Princeton, N.J.), Sophia Dillon-Davidson (Amherst, Mass.), Emma MaGee (Stormville, N.Y.) and Maggie Haley (Shady Side, Ma.) also turned in a time of 1:47.79 in the event.

Wang and Chiang went on to finish in seventh and ninth, respectively, in the 400 IM. Wang recorded a time of 4:41.40, while Chiang finished in 4:44.28. Chen also had a strong evening for the Blue, taking eighth in the 50 Free with a time of 24.74 and third in the B-Final of the 100 Back in 1:00.34.

Feng added a first-place performance to lead the Blue in the B-Final of the 200 Fly, finishing the race in 2:15.52. Haley was ninth in the B-Final in 2:15.52.

First year Kayleigh Svensson (Palo Alto, Calif.) was Wellesley's top-finisher in the 200 Free, earning runner-up honors in the C-Final with a time of 2:01.15. Classmate Danielle Peterson (Livingston, N.J.) and junior Lindsay Wu (Livingston, N.J.) were Wellesley's top performers in 100 Breast, taking third and fourth in the B-Final 1:09.60 and 1:09.90, respectively.

In 3-Meter Diving, sophomore Ingrid Henderson (Berkeley, Calif.) had Wellesley's top score with a mark of 152.20. First year Zubyn D'Costa (Princeton, N.J.) also finished with a score of 118.75.

Chiang, Chen, Wang and Feng closed out the swimming events for Wellesley with a tenth place time in the 400 Medley Relay 4:04.91.

The third and final day of the MIT Invitational gets started at 10:30 AM on Sunday, December 4. Sunday's preliminary competition will be followed by finals tomorrow evening at 6:00 PM.
