Wellesley Swimming & Diving’s Sticco-Ivins Claims 2nd NCAA 3-Meter Diving Title

SHENANDOAH, Texas – Wellesley College junior Maura Sticco-Ivins (Framingham, Mass.) scored 504.00 to win the 2017 NCAA Division III three-meter diving National Championship on Wednesday during the opening night of the 2017 NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships at the Conroe ISD Natatorium. 

With the victory, Sticco-Ivins becomes the first two-time NCAA National Champion in Wellesley College history, having also claimed the NCAA Division III three-meter title as a first year in 2015. The national title is the fourth individual national championship in Blue athletic history and the fifth total for Wellesley College.  

Sticco-Ivins was in fourth place following the day's preliminary competition, advancing to Wednesday evening's final with a total score of 448.10 on her opening eleven dives. Sticco-Ivins then averaged a score of 49.61 on her six dives during Wednesday's final, including three-straight scores of 50.00 or higher on her final three dives, to claim her second national title.

The three-time New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Diver of the Year, Sticco-Ivins is now two-for-two in NCAA three-meter competitions at the Conroe ISD Natatorium, as she also earned her 2015 three-meter national championship in Shenandoah. The Wellesley junior was also the national runner-up on the three-meter board at the 2016 NCAA Championships. 

Sticco-Ivins will now aim for her first career one-meter diving national championship on Friday, March 17, in women's one-meter diving. Sticco-Ivins finished 11th in one-meter diving at the 2016 NCAA Championships and was the national runner-up during the 2015 NCAA Championships in Shenandoah. Preliminary round competition will begin at the conclusion of the morning session at approximately 2:00 PM ET.
