Wellesley Swimming & Diving Falls In Dual Meet Action At Simmons

BOSTON -- Junior Jessie Feng (Princeton, N.J.) took first in both the 100 and 200 Fly, but Wellesley College swimming & diving dropped a 167-132 final in dual meet action at Simmons College on Saturday afternoon at the Holmes Sports Center. 

The Blue are now 1-1 on the season, while the Sharks are now 4-1 overall.  

Feng recorded a time of 2:166.10 in the 200 Butterfly and 1:02.50 in the 100 Butterfly to win both events, accumulating a team-leading 18 of Wellesley's points in the meet. First year Emily Yeager (Pittsfield, Mass.) finished in first place for Wellesley in the 200 Backstroke with a time of 2:14.85 and also recorded a second place finish in the 100 Backstroke in 1:03.98.  

The Blue saw a number of second place finishes, including sophomore Kayleigh Svensson (Palo Alto, Calif.) who finished the 1000 Freestyle in 11:34.73. Classmate Danielle Peterson (Livingston, N.J) was also second with a time of 1:10.87 in the 100 Freestyle. First year Solveig Stensland (Lino Lakes, Minn.) earned a second place finish in the 50 Freestyle in 26.06 and junior Sunny Chiang (Troy, Mich.) completed the 200 IM in 2:19.28.  

Out of five divers, Wellesley held the top three slots in the 1-Meter with a first place finish from senior Maura Sticco-Ivins (Framingham, Mass.) with a score of 295.85. Sticco-Ivins continued to top the diving competition in the 3-Meter dive, finishing first with a score of 288.65.

Both teams return to the pool next Saturday, November 18 at 1:00 PM. Wellesley will travel to Mount Holyoke, while Simmons will host the University of New England.
