SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. -- Wellesley College Swimming and Diving saw four swimmers earn two victories apiece to secure a 173-121 win over Mount Holyoke College on Saturday at the Mount Holyoke Natatorium.
The Blue earned 13 first place finishes during the meet to improve to 2-1 on the season. Mount Holyoke drops to 1-3.
Sophomore Kayleigh Svensson (Palo Alto, Calif.) finished first in both the 1000 and 500 Freestyle with times of 11:40.34 and 5:37.29. First year Emily Yeager (Pittsfield, Mass.) took the 100 and 200 Backstroke in 1:03.02 and 2:14.16, respectivley. Sophomore Danielle Peterson (Livingston, N.J.) earned two first place finishes in the 100 and 200 Breastroke with times of 1:11.14 and 2:34.37. First year Solveig Stensland (Lino Lakes, Minn.) finished the 50 and 100 Freestyle clocking in at 26.05 and 57.57.
Wellesley added a first place finish in the 200 Freestyle when junior Jessie Feng (Princeton, N.J.) touched the wall at 2:05.47. Sophomore Maggie Haley (Shady Side, Md.) also finished first in the 200 Butterfly with a time of 2:20.56.
The Blue split with the Lions in the two relays, with junior Sunny Chiang (Troy, Mich.), Peterson, first year Emma Helmich (Huntington, Ind.) and Stensland combining to finish first in the 200 Medley Relay in 1:55.50. Chiang was also the runner-up in both the 100 (1:03.67) and 200 (2:15.08) Backstroke.
Senior diver Maura Sticco-Ivins (Framingham, Mass.) swept both boards for the Blue. Sticco-Ivins scored 268.25 on the 1-meter and 266.95 on the 3-meter. Both marks were NCAA Regional qualifying scores for the Wellesley senior.
Both teams will return to the pool on Friday, December 1. Mount Holyoke will travel to Clinton, N.Y. for the Hamilton Invitational and Wellesley will be participating in the MIT Invitational in Cambridge, Mass.
