Wellesley Swimming & Diving In Sixth After Day Two at MIT Invitational

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Wellesley College swimming and diving has 213 points and is in sixth place overall following Saturday night's finals on the second day of the MIT Invitational at the Zesiger Center Pool.

Wellesley competed in the 200 free relay where sophomore Danielle Peterson (Livingston, N.J.), and first years Emma Helmich (Huntington, Ind.), Solveig Stensland (Lino Lakes, Minn.), and Emily Yeager (Pittsfield, Mass.) posted the fastest time among the Blue's three relay teams, finishing in 1:41.81. Yeager also finished the 100 Back with a time of 1:02.54, while Stensland touched the wall at 25.91 during the 50 Free.

Peterson went on to add the top mark among the five Wellesley swimmers in the 100 Breaststroke in 1:09.28. First year Jessica Wu (Palo Alto, Calif.) followed in 1:11.42, while classmate Margaret Harrigan (Chatham, N.J.) finished in 1:15.03 and senior Patricia Chen (Natick, Mass.) clocked in at 1:16.11. Sophomore Sarah Gladstone (Brookline, Mass.) rounded out the Wellesley contingent with a time of 1:19.67.  

Sophomore Maggie Haley (Shady Side, Md.) was the lone Wellesley swimmer in the 200 Fly where she finished in 2:20.46. Junior Sunny Chiang (Troy, Mich.) competed in the 400 IM where she finished with a time of 4:51.59. Chiang, Peterson, junior Jessie Feng (Princeton, N.J.), and Yeager led the Blue in the 400 Medley Relay where they finished in 4:07.17.  

Senior Maura Sticco-Ivins (Framingham, Mass.) placed fifth overall in 3-Meter diving with a score of 273.10. First year Noelle Bergere (Madison, Conn.) finished in eighth place with a 244.80 score. Junior Ingrid Henderson (Berkeley, Calif.) added a score of 195.95.

Wellesley will compete in the last day of the MIT Invitational tomorrow, December 3, in the: 200 Medley Relay, 500 Free, 200 Back, 100 Fly, 200 Breast, 100 Free, 200 IM, 400 Free Relay (Finals Only). Finals will begin at 6:00 PM, with preliminaries taking place earlier in the day at 10:00 AM.
