Chiang Leads Wellesley Swimming on Final Night at MIT Invitational

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Wellesley College swimming & diving finished the weekend in sixth place following three days of action at the MIT Invitational. The Blue closed out Sunday evening's session at the Zesiger Center Pool with 312 points.

NYU (1269.5) edged host MIT (1195.5) to win the event, while Tufts (1065) took third and RPI (748) followed in fourth. Wheaton (65) was fifth, followed by the Blue and Keene St. (282).

Junior Sunny Chiang (Troy, Mich.) led the way for Wellesley on Sunday evening, earning the victory in the B Final of the 200 IM by touching the wall with the seventh fastest time overall of 2:14.68. Chiang was also first in the C Final of the 200 Back, finishing in 2:12.56.

Wellesley opened Sunday night with a victory in the B Final of the 200 Medley Relay. Sophomore Kayleigh Svensson (Palo Alto, Calif.), sophomore Danielle Peterson (Livingston, N.J.), first year Emma Helmich (Huntington, Ind.), and junior Jessie Feng (Princeton, N.J.) combined for a time of 1:51.10. Wellesley was also first in the C Final with first year Emily Yeager (Pittsfield, Mass.), first year Jessica Wu (Palo Alto, Calif.), sophomore Maggie Haley (Shady Side, Md.), and first year Solveig Stensland (Lino Lakes, Minn.) posting a mark of 1:56.43.

Yeager went on to lead the Blue in the 500 Free, placing 18th overall in 5:27.28. Feng would record a time of 1:00.46 to take runner-up honors of the 100 Fly C Final, while Peterson also added a runner-up time in a C Final, taking second in the 200 Breast in 2:30.82. Hemlich finished as the fourth fastest first year overall in the 100 Free, finishing third in the B Final in 55.81.

Wellesley concluded the weekend with a time of 3:42.63 in the 400 Free Relay. Peterson, Helmich, Stensland and Yeager combined to lead Wellesley's A Relay. Svensson, Chiang, Haley, and Feng also posted a mark of 3:44.94 in the final event. 

Wellesley will close out the first semester on Friday evening, December 8, when they head to Trinity College to take on the Bantams and Wheaton in a tri-dual at 7:00 PM.
