Wellesley Swimming & Diving 6th After Opening Night at MIT Invitational

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Wellesley College swimming & diving opened the three-day MIT Winter Invitational on Friday evening at the Zesiger Center pool. The Blue competed in the 800 Free Relay, 1650 Free, and 1-meter diving during the first night of competition and are currently in sixth in the team standings. 

Wellesley finished ninth in the 800 Free Relay, as the Blue's 'A' Relay of junior Danielle Peterson (Livingston, N.J.), senior Jessie Feng (Princeton, N.J.), first year Shelby Ripp (St. Louis, Mo.) and sophomore Hannah May (Cincinnati, Ohio) paced the squad to a top-time of 7:54.26. The Blue 'B' Relay finished 14th in 8:09.29 and the 'C' was 22nd in 8:40.33. 

First year Paulina Gonzalez (Caracas, Venezuela) finished with the top Wellesley time in the 1650 Free. The only Wellesley competitor in the event, she completed her race in 19:15.80 to take 15th.

In women's 1-meter diving, senior Ingrid Henderson (Berkeley, Calif.) posted the top Wellesley finish in 15th, earning a score of 169.55 for her six-dive set. First year Emma Roberts (Boxford, Mass.) was 20th overall with a score of 135.25. Both Henderson and Roberts will return to action on the 3-meter board on Saturday.

The MIT Invitational continues throughout the day on Saturday. Prelims begin at 10:00 AM, followed by 3-Meter diving at 12:45 PM and Finals at 6:00 PM. Full information for this weekend is available at mitathletics.com.
