Wegner, May Lead Blue Swim & Dive on Second Day of MIT Invitational

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Wellesley College swimming & diving is in fifth place following the conclusion of day two of the MIT Invitational at the Zesiger Center pool.

The Blue moved up to fifth place in the team standings with 265.5 points. Wellesley trails fourth place Wheaton (358) by 92.5 points. Host MIT (1074) leads the team standings.

A pair of top-five finishes highlighted Saturday night's final for the Blue, with first year Jessica Wegner (Taipei, Taiwan) taking fifth in the 100 Back with a time of 58.40 and sophomore Hannah May (Cincinnati, Ohio) earning fifth in the 200 Free with a time of 1:56.08. Both times were season-best marks by over two seconds for Wegner and May.

Wegner also helped the Blue finish seventh in Saturday evening's opening event, the 200 Free Relay. Wegner raced the anchor leg of the Blue's 1:39.96 finish. First year Peyton Wang (Palo Alto, Calif.) opened the race, followed by junior Kayleigh Svensson (Palo Alto, Calif.), senior Crystal Zhu (Chelmsford, Mass.) and Wegner. Wang would also go on to add an 11th place finish in the 50 Free before the night was over, finishing in 24.89.

Wegner, Svensson and May ended the evening helping the Blue to a tenth place finish in the 400 Medley Relay. The trio teamed with junior Danielle Peterson (Livingston, N.J.) to earn a time of 4:03.48. Before swimming the breaststroke in the Medley Relay, Peterson added a time of 1:09.32 in the 100 Breast earlier in the evening, earning a 12th place finish. 

Senior Sunny Chiang (Troy, Mich.) helped the Blue to another top-ten on Saturday, taking seventh in the 400 IM with a time of 4:43.43. Also in action, senior Jessie Feng (Princeton, N.J.) was 13th in the 200 Fly (2:14.52).

The Blue concluded diving following Saturday's preliminaries. Senior Ingrid Henderson (Berkeley, Calif.) took 12th (181.60). First year Emma Roberts (Boxford, Mass.) added a 17th place finish (160.15). 

The MIT Invitational concludes Sunday. Prelims begin at 10:00 AM and Finals will get underway at 6:00 PM. Full information for Sunday is available at mitathletics.com
