Wellesley's Hsu Named NEWMAC Women's Co-Swimmer of the Week

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Wellesley College first year Shawyuan Hsu (Taipei, Taiwan) has been named the New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women's Co-Swimmer of the Week for the week ending January 12, 2019.

Hsu won the 50 and 100 Free in back-to-back meets against NEWMAC foes Babson, Coast Guard and Smith to total four individual wins. On Friday, Hsu took the 50 Free with a season-best mark of 24.14 and the 100 Free in 54.60, also a season-best, as Wellesley defeated Coast Guard, 167-133, and Babson, 220-71. Hsu repeated the double on Saturday, winning the 50 Free in 24.81 and the 100 Free in 55.06 in a 164-126 win over Smith. Hsu was also part of relay victories in the 200 Medley and 200 Free on Friday and the 200 Medley on Saturday. Hsu joins classmate Elizabeth Park (Dix Hills, N.Y.) as the second Blue swimmer to win the award this season.

Wellesley Swimming & diving, ranked No. 25 in the latest CSCAA Division III Coaches Poll, will take part in the Mount Holyoke Invitational on Saturday and Sunday, January 18-19, in South Hadley, Mass.


The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference consists of 11 highly selective institutions committed to academic excellence: Babson College, Clark University, U.S Coast Guard Academy, Emerson College, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Mount Holyoke College, Smith College, Springfield College, Wellesley College, Wheaton College, and Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
