Wellesley Cruises To Win Over Simmons, 247-38

WELLESLEY, Mass. - Wellesley College swimming and diving evened up their season record at 1-1 with a dominant 247-38 victory over Simmons on Friday evening at Chandler Pool.

Wellesley (1-1) took a lead early against the Sharks (1-2) and never looked back. Wellesley went on to win 16 out of 17 of the events.

Wellesley first year Elsa Marsden (Vienna, Va.) opened the meet off by winning the 1-meter dive event with a score of 197.93. Wellesley senior Lily Duff (Scituate, Mass.) took second place in the event. The Blue also won the 200-Medley Relay with first years Tracey Liu (Princeton, N.J.), Lara Dashti (Kuwait), and sophomores JJ Kim (New Haven, Conn.), and Arya Wu (Shenzhen, China) coming in with a time of 1:53.85.

Wellesley sophomore Cecilia Cai (Palo Alto, Calif.) captured the 1000 Yard Freestyle with a blistering time of 11:14.18. Next, first year Aubrey Cantrell (Palo Alto, Calif.) took home the 200 Yard Freestyle for the Blue, breaking the two-minute mark with a 1:58.74. Sophomore Julia Lucey (Old Greenwich, Conn.) narrowly edged teammate Kim with a time of 1:03.32 to win the 100 Yard Backstroke event.

The Blue continued their winning ways in the 100 Yard Breaststroke event with first year Kavita Sekhon (Los Angeles, Calif.) taking the event with a time of 1:08.05 followed by Dashti with a 1:09.46. Simmons grabbed their lone win in the 50 Yard Butterfly event, won by first year Lily Martin (Raynham, Mass.) with a time of 29.68. Closing out the first half of events was Junior Ariana Mitsuoka (Centennial, Co.) collecting the win in the 50 Yard Freestyle event swimming a 24.93, setting a new season best for the junior.

After the break Marsden won the 3-meter diving event for Wellesley with a score of 201.83 followed by Duff with a score of 180.83. Mitsuoka continued Wellesley's winning ways, taking the 100 Yard Freestyle with a time of 54.14. Cai would also earn another win in the 200 Yard Backstroke with a time of 2:13.28. 

Dashti picked up the win in the 200 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 2:30.65 setting a collegiate personal best. Sophomore Maya Hart (Menlo Park, Calif.) picked up her first win of the day for the Blue in the 500 Yard Freestyle with a time of 5:42.72, before sophomore Angela Zhu (Bayside, N.Y.) continued the Blue's winning streak with a time of 1:00.06 to collect the win in the 100 Yard Butterfly event. Junior McKaela Glanville (Menlo Park, Calif.) edged out Blue teammate Dashti in the 200 Yard IM event with a time of 2:15.14. 

In the penultimate event Cai swam a 4:47.52 to score another victory this time in the 400 Yard IM. Wellesley closed out the day with the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay. Liu, Kim, junior Maddie Hoesel (Kapp'a, Hawaii), and Mitsuoka swam a 3:50.27 to win the event.

The Blue return on Saturday, November 19 when they travel to Mount Holyoke for a 12:00 PM meet. The Sharks finish a four-meet road stretch on Saturday, November 12 with a 12:00 PM meet at University of New England.
