Blue Swimming and Diving Defeats Smith, Falls to Springfield

WELLESLEY, Mass. - Wellesley College swimming and diving defeated Smith 191-78 and fell to Springfield 182-110 in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) competition on Saturday at Chandler Pool.

The Blue opened the day with a 200 Yard Medley Relay victory from first years Tracey Liu (Princeton, N.J.), Kavita Sekhon (Los Angeles, Calif.), Aubrey Cantrell (Palo Alto, Calif.), and junior Ariana Mitsuoka (Centennial, Colo.).

The Pride won both the 1000 and 200 Yard Freestyle events with first year Emma Savoie (Milford, Conn.) and senior Lefteri Roba (Worcester, Mass.) earning wins.

Liu got the Blue back on the board with a first place finish in the 100 Yard Backstroke event, breaking the one-minute mark with a 59.92. This was followed up by Sekhon winning the 100 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 1:06.08. Sophomore Cecilia Cai (Palo Alto, Calif.) nabbed first for the Blue in 200 Yard Butterfly event with a time of 2:11.24. 

Springfield sophomore Kay Shen (Hong Kong) won the 50 Yard Freestyle with a time of 24.92. Shen also won the 100 Yard Freestyle event for the Pride. Smith first year diver Katherine Welsh (St. Paul, Minn.) won the one-meter event with a score of 234.15. Additionally, Welsh won the three-meter diving event.

Cai won a second event for Wellesley in the 200 Yard Backstroke with a time of 2:12.32. Sekhon also won a second event in the 200 Yard Breaststroke, with her 2:24.53 nearly five seconds ahead of the second place finisher.

Savoie won the 500 Yard Freestyle for the Pride and Springfield senior Mikaili Charlemagne (Casteries, St. Lucia) took the 100 Yard Butterfly with a winning time of 1:01.17. 

Wellesley junior McKaela Glanville (Menlo Park, Calif.) won the 400 Yard IM by swimming a 4:44.77 before Springfield won the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay to conclude the day.

The Blue remain home next Saturday at 11:00 AM to host Merrimack. The Pioneers will host Mount Holyoke on February 4 at 1:00 PM while the Pride return home next Saturday for a 1:00 meet against Trinity.
