Wellesley Tennis Tops NEWMAC-Foe Mount Holyoke, 7-2
WELLESLEY, Mass. -- The Wellesley College tennis team nabbed a 7-2 victory over Mount Holyoke in NEWMAC action on Wednesday evening in Wellesley. The win lifts the Blue to 3-1 (2-1 NEWMAC), while the Lyons record evens at 3-3 (1-2 NEWMAC).
 
Wellesley used a strong doubles start to grab an early advantage, and the momemtum carried into singles where the Blue won four of the six matches. 

The hosts swept doubles action, earning a 3-0 start to the match. After Wellesley's Sojung Lee and Carina Chen breezed to an 8-2 win over AnnElizabeth Konkel and Eman Malik, second and third doubles were tightly played. 

At second doubles, the Blue's Andjela Stojkovic and Lina Ye paired up for a close 9-7 win over Maya Sayarath and Margaux Holloschutz. At three, Wellesley's Kendall Tada and Samantha Stone squeaked out a win, coming back from an 8-7 deficit to take the match 9-8 (7-3) in the tiebreaker and give Wellesley a 3-0 lead.

In singles play, Wellesley quickly sealed the match with wins in the first and second flights. Stojkovic earned the fourth point for Wellesley at two, blanking Sayarath, 6-0, 6-3. Lee then recorded the match clincher at one, defeating Konkel, 6-0, 6-3.
Mount Holyoke grabbed a point in the fifth spot, where Malik handled Dasha Kostikina, 6-1, 6-2, before Wellesley's Samantha Stone defeated Anischik, 6-2, 6-3, at four to make it 6-1 Blue. 

The final two matches on court were at three and six, where the teams split points making it a 7-2 Wellesley victory. At three, Mount Holyoke's Holloschutz was a 6-2, 6-1, winner over Tada, while at six, Wellesley's Caroline Dickensheets won a marathon match, 5-7, 6-1, 7-6 (10-5) over Kelsey Brower.

Wellesley returns to action on Saturday, hosting Clark University in a 1:00pm NEWMAC clash. Mount Holyoke also returns to the court on Saturday, hosting defending NEWMAC Champion and #22 MIT at 1:00pm.
