Lee Advances to Round of 16 to Highlight Blue Tennis at ITA's

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Junior Sojung Lee highlighted a team of three Wellesley tennis players competing on day one of the 2013 ITA New England Regionals Friday at Williams College.

Lee competed at the singles and doubles event, along with teammates, first-year Carina Chen and first-year Andjela Stojkovic. The event features a 64-player singles bracket, a 32-team doubles bracket, and consolation brackets for both.

Lee picked up two singles wins on day one, advancing to the round of 16. She opened the tournament with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Nichols' Anna Dyakiv, and then recorded her second-win of the season over ninth-seed and nationally-ranked Rebecca Curran of Williams. Lee, despite little rest, topped Curran, 7-6 (7-2), 6-4.

Rounding out the singles action, Stojkovic fell in her first round match-up, falling 6-3, 6-1, to Lindsay Benoit of Nichols.

In doubles, Wellesley's Lee paired up with Chen to take on the Wheaton team of Alexandra Marlowe and Lyndsay Cooke, immediately following a long day of singles play. Wheaton's top duo was able to come out on top, defeating Wellesley, 8-5.

Lee will continue her singles play tomorrow, facing second-seeded Ria Gerger of Middlebury in the morning. Gerger, last year's regional Rookie of the Year, is ranked 13th in Division III.

Chen and Stojkovic will both play in the singles consolation bracket, as Chen drew Wheaton's Marlowe and Stojkovic will take on Senzo Mavune-Maphisa of Trinity.
