Division-I Cal State Northridge Tops Wellesley Tennis

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. -- The Wellesley College tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to Division-I Cal State Northridge on Wednesday evening on the team's spring break trip to California. The loss sets Wellesley's season mark to 9-5.

Cal State Northridge opened up with a 1-0 lead after taking all three doubles matches. In NCAA Division-I rules, the team that wins the most doubles matches gets awarded a doubles point.

Sojung Lee and first-year Carina Chen had the closest doubles match, falling to Vivian Lin and Criss Rodriguez, 8-5. At two, the Matadors' Mickey Hsu and Kristen Poei topped first-years Lina Ye and Andjela Stojkovic, and at three, Lorraine Cheung and Scout Shutter defeated Wellesley first-years Dasha Kostikina and Caroline Dickensheets

In singles, Northridge grabbed each match in straight sets. Lee fell to Lin, 6-3, 6-0, at one, while Poei topped Chen, 6-1, 6-2 at two. At three, Shutter defeated Stojkovic, 8-2, and at four, Warren topped Ye, 6-4, 6-1. Closing out the singles flight, Schnyder defeated senior
Kendall Tada, 6-2, 6-1, and at six, Taslagyan topped Kostikina, 6-0, 6-2. 

Wellesley returns to action on the east coast on Tuesday, heading to Tufts for a 4:00pm match-up. The Blue will then host the Nor'Easter Bowl on April 4th, 5th and 6th.
