Wellesley Tennis Players Lee and Chen Earn NCAA Bids

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- For the first time since 2008, the Wellesley College tennis team will be represented at the NCAA Division III Individual Tennis Championships. Wellesley junior Sojung Lee and first-year Carina Chen earned a bid to the national doubles tournament, while Lee is the region's first alternate in the singles tournament.

The event will run May 22-24, at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center in Claremont, California and will be hosted by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges. The individual championships consist of 32 singles players and 16 doubles teams. The selection of teams and individuals for the championships were based on win-lost record and strength of schedule.

As a doubles pair, Lee and Chen are 15-5 on the season, which included a perfect 7-0 record in the NEWMAC. The duo earned an All-Conference recognition in the fall and have consistantly held a top-tier ranking in the region.

In singles, Lee carries a team-leading 16-7 record, playing at the top of the line-up. She finished her season with five straight victories and played a nationally-ranked slate of players.

The last Wellesley tennis student-athletes to represent the Blue at the NCAA Individual Championships, were Jenna Mezin '08 and Hali Walther '08, who competed as a doubles team in 2008, while Mezin also qualified to the singles tournament.

A complete doubles and singles bracket will be posted on ncaa.com on May 21st.
