#28 Wellesley Tennis Downs Endicott to Open Season

WELLESLEY, Mass. – The 28th-ranked Wellesley College tennis team opened the 2014-15 season with a convincing 8-1 win over Endicott College. The match was the season opener for the Blue, while the Gulls dip to 1-1 in 2014.

The Blue opened with a 2-1 edge after doubles, thanks to wins at one and two. Wellesley then stormed through singles, sweeping all six matches to set the final to 8-1.

In doubles, Wellesley sophomore Samantha Stone and first-year Emily Olson put the Blue on top with a quick 8-1 win over Natalie Egbert and Brittany Potter. The teams then split the remaining doubles matches on court, with Wellesley winning 8-3 at one, and Endicott grabbing a similar 8-3 win at three.

In the first spot, Blue sophomore Andjela Stojkovic and first-year Caroline Hsu teamed up for an 8-3 win over Endicott's top pair of Amy Heacox and Dayna Reilly. At three, it was the Gulls Kenzie Rhodes and Maxine Bergstein topping Wellesley sophomore Dasha Kostikina and first-year Victoria Wu.

In singles, Wellesley took each of the first five flights in straight sets, before completing the sweep with a three-set victory in the sixth spot. At one, Stojkovic was a 6-0, 6-1 winner over Heacox, while at two, sophomore Carina Chen topped Egbert, 6-1, 6-4. At three, Wellesley's Hsu was a 6-2, 6-3 winner over Reilly, while at four, Stone topped Suzie Newman, 6-2, 6-2.

At five singles, Wellesley's Olson did not allow a set in a 6-0, 6-0 sweep, while at six, Blue sophomore Caroline Dickensheets topped Jamie Zompa, 6-2, 0-6, (10-5) to wrap up the Wellesley win.

Blue tennis is back in action on Saturday, September 6th, hosting Smith College at 1:00pm. The match marks the beginning of conference play for the Wellesley.
