Wellesley Tennis Sweeps Wheaton in NEWMAC Action

WELLESLEY, Mass. — Wellesley College tennis improved to 5-2 on the season and 4-1  in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Friday evening, earning a 9-0 sweep of visiting Wheaton.

The Blue swept all three of the opening doubles matches by scores of 8-0 as the first doubles pair of Sojung Lee and Carina Chen topped Alexandra Marlowe and Amanda Brazell, while Andjela Stojkovic and Caroline Hsu defeat Izzy Gorham and Caroline DiNicola in second doubles and Dasha Kostikina and Emily Olson topped Kathryn Burleson and Caroline Stanclift in the third doubles match. 

In singles play, both Stone and Hsu cruised to victories of 6-0, 6-0 over Burleson and DiNicola, respectively. Kostikina also topped Wheaton's Stassy Furber by a 6-0, 6-1 score, while Chen earned a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Gorham. 

The final two matches of the day were also its closest as Stojkovic topped Brazell, escaping the first set with a 7-6 victory before closing it out with a 6-3 win. Lee finished off the sweep for the Blue, defeating Marlowe by dual 6-4 margins.

 

The Blue will be back in action tomorrow morning at 10:00 am when they host Babson in a NEWMAC contest. Wheaton will also continue its conference schedule when they take on MIT tomorrow at 1:00 pm.
