#d3week Student-Athlete Profile: Caroline Dickensheets, Wellesley Tennis

As part of NCAA Division III Week, Wellesley Athletics will feature daily profiles that will provide an opportunity to meet four of our outstanding Division III student-athletes. Each profile will touch on multiple aspects of the student-athlete experience, including: on and off the field accomplishments, leadership and community involvement and what being a Division III student-athlete means to them. Today's profile focuses on Caroline Dickensheets. A sophomore from Alpharetta, Georgia, Caroline is co-captain of the Blue Tennis team!

Wellesley Athletics (WA): What Academic Accomplishment are you most proud of during your time at Wellesley?

Caroline Dickensheets (CD): My proudest Academic Accomplishment would be balancing my academics along with my athletics. Being a student-athlete can be very demanding at times, but I think that by managing my time, and not sweating the small stuff, it has allowed me to get the most out of my time here at Wellesley.

WA: What Athletic Accomplishment are you most proud of during your time at Wellesley?

CD: During the college application process, I was unsure of whether or not to pursue tennis at the varsity level. While being on the tennis team at Wellesley has proven a challenge both mentally and physically, I am so glad that I made the choice to continue my sport! After playing tennis for so many years I can't imagine what I would do if it suddenly disappeared from my life. Staying committed to putting in my best effort is an Athletic Accomplishment in itself. In terms of competitions, winning Seven Sisters tournament last spring was my proudest accomplishment of our team. The tradition of the tournament and the women it brings together is inspirational, while our final match with Vassar was an amazing feat!

WA: What Leadership and/or Community Involvement projects have you been involved with?

CD: Individually, I have served as a co-captain along with Sojung Lee for the 2014-2015 season in addition to serving as a SAAC representative for tennis. As a team, we have an annual kid's clinic that teaches children in the nearby community about tennis while promoting the Wellesley Athletic program. The clinic is an opportunity for us to set a good example as student-athletes and serve as mentors for those who might also play a varsity sport in college!

WA: What has your experience as a Wellesley student-athlete meant to you?

CD: My experience as a Wellesley student-athlete has taught me to value both the academic and athletic opportunities this institution promotes. More importantly though, being on the tennis team has allowed me to make so many connections with people here at Wellesley. Whether it is my teammates who come from across the globe or our coaches who dedicate so much of their time to us, I am so fortunate to have made these connections as a student-athlete that will last a lifetime.
