Blue Tennis Drops Texas Finale to Trinity (Tex.), 8-1

SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- Wellesley College tennis got a victory from first year Justine Huang (Coto de Caza, Calif.) at number two singles, but host Trinity University took the remaining match-ups to cruise to an 8-1 victory over the Blue on Wednesday evening.

No. 34 Wellesley ends their two-game Texas road trip with a 1-1 record to drop to 9-5 overall. No. 25 Trinity improves to 10-5 and 7-0 in the month of March.

Huang opened her match at # 2 Singles with a 6-2 victory over first year Caroline Kutach (McGregor, Texas). She then held on for a 7-6 win to earn the win in two sets. The Tigers swept the remaining matches, beginning with doubles.

Senior Gabrielle Roe (New Orleans, La.) and junior Liza Southwick (Nashville, Tenn.) defeated sophomore Emily Olson (La Jolla, Calif.) and first year Tristan Lorich (New York, N.Y.), 8-4, at number two, before sophomore Cheyenne Duncan (San Angelo, Texas) and first year Andrea De Leon (Mission, Texas) topped first years So Jin Ki (Seoul, South Korea) and Rosanne Hu (Troy, Texas), 8-3, at three. The Tigers completed the doubles sweep with Kutach and sophomore Marie Lutz (San Antonio, Texas) defeating Huang and junior Carina Chen (Hong Kong), 8-2, at one.

Southwick opened singles play with a victory over Olson, 6-1, 6-0 at #3. Duncan then defeated junior Dasha Kostikina (Acton, Mass.), 6-3, 7-6, to clinch the match at #6, before senior Gabrielle Roe (New Orleans, La.) topped Ki, 6-4, 6-0 at#5. Lutz then defeated Chen, 6-2, 6-4, at one before Huang closed out Wellesley's lone singles victory. The match concluded at #4 Singles, where De Leon defeated Lorich, 6-3, 6-4.
