Blue Tennis Downs Mount Holyoke, Smith at Seven Sisters

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Wellesley College tennis defeated Mount Holyoke College, 5-0, and Smith College, 5-0, to open the 2016 Seven Sisters Tennis Championship with a pair of victories at Vassar College's Walker Field House.

The Blue improved to 14-5 overall, sweeping each match in this year's two doubles, threes singles, no repeat format.

Wellesley 5, Mount Holyoke 0

The Blue opened the weekend with a 5-0 sweep of the Lyons. In singles, junior Carina Chen (Hong Kong) defeated first year Ayame Yazawa (Tokyo, Japan), 6-3, 6-2, in the top match-up. First years Justine Huang (Coto de Caza, Calif.) and So Jin Ki (Seoul, South Korea) then went on to score their first Seven Sisters victories at #2 and #3 Singles, with Huang topping senior Margaux Holloschutz (Franklin Lakes, N.J.), 6-1, 6-3, at #2 and Ki defeating senior Michelle Cai (Hong Kong), 6-2, 6-2, at #3.

The Blue also cruised to victory in doubles, as juniors Samantha Stone (Greenwich, Conn.) and Dasha Kostikina (Acton, Mass.) took down sophomore Ishita Tibrewal (Kolkata, India) and first year Madison Rosen (Portland, Ore.), 6-2, 6-2, at #1 Doubles and first year Rosanne Hu (Troy, Texas) and sophomore Emily Olson (La Jolla, Calif.) swept past junior Amy Chen (Hilo, Hawaii) and first year Clara Wang (Madison, Conn.), 6-0, 6-0, at #2 Doubles.

Wellesley 5, Smith 0 

Wellesley rolled out a new lineup in the day's second match but got the same result, this time sweeping Smith 5-0. Olson returned in singles play, jumping up to #1 Singles, where she earned a, 6-1, 6-1, win over first year Noa Dubin (Southampton, N.Y.). Stone and Kostikina moved to singles in the second match, with Stone defeating first year Morgan Barney (North Attleboro, Mass.), 6-0, 6-0, at #2 and Kostikina earning a 6-0, 6-1, victory over junior Alexandra Steck (Loudonville, N.Y.) at #3. 

In doubles play, first year Tristan Lorich (New York, N.Y.) joined Huang to earn the Blue a victory at #1. The duo took matching 6-1 wins to defeat sophomore Samantha Peikes (West Hartford, Conn.) and first year Joanna Kim (Chicago, Ill.). Ki and Hu closed out the Blue win with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over sophomore Tess Ostoyich (Bethesda, Md.) and first year Janan Fugel (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) at #2 Doubles.

Wellesley tennis will seek to claim the program's 14th Seven Sisters title, and first since 2014, on Sunday, April 10.
