No. 31 Blue Tennis Defeated By No. 15 Tufts in Season Finale

MEDFORD, Mass. – Host Tufts University swept the opening doubles match-ups before going on to sweep through singles play in a 9-0 victory over Wellesley College tennis on Thursday afternoon at the Voute Tennis Courts.

The Jumbos, ranked No. 15 in the latest ITA National poll, move to 7-3 on the season. No. 31 Wellesley ends the season with a 15-6 record.

Tufts took all three doubles matches to race to a 3-0 lead in the match. In the top doubles match-up, sophomore Lauren Louks (Malibu, Calif.) and first year Mina Karamercan (Istanbul, Turkey) topped the Wellesley pair of sophomore Emily Olson (La Jolla, Calif.) and first year Justine Huang (), 8-3. Junior Conner Calabro (Sherman Oaks, Calif.) and first year Otilita Popa (San diego, Calif.) picked up an 8-2 win at # 2 doubles over Wellesley juniors Dasha Kostikina (Acton, Mass.) and Samantha Stone (Greenwich, Conn.). Tufts first year Tomo Iwasaki (Scarsdale, N.Y.) and junior Jacqueline Baum (Highland Park, Ill.) then went on to earn an 8-4 win over first years Rosanne Hu (Troy, Texas) and Tristan Lorich (New York) at #3 Doubles.

The Jumbos won in two sets in all six singles positions to secure the 9-0 win. At # 1 singles Louks picked up a 6-3, 7-5 win over Huang. Karamercan took on Olson at #2 singles and played the closest match of the day, picking up a 6-0, 7-6 (8-6) win. At #3 singles, Calabro was able to win 6-0, 6-1 over Lorich. Iwasaki picked up a 6-2, 6-2 win over Stone at #4, before sophomore Zoe Miller (Agoura Hills, Calif.) defeated Kostikina at #5 singles, 6-1, 6-3. Tufts junior Chelesa Hayashi (San Anselmo, Calif.) closed out the win at #6 singles, as she earned a 6-3, 6-1 win over Hu. 

Today's match was the 2015-16 season finale for the Blue. Wellesley ends the year with a 15-6 overall record, the most wins for the program since the squad went 17-7 in 2011-12.
