SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Wellesley College tennis got victories at No. 1 doubles and No. 5 singles, but host Skidmore College swept the remaining matches to down the Blue, 7-2, in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon. Wellesley is now 3-2 overall, while the Thoroughbreds move to 5-1 on the season.

Junior Justine Huang (Coto de Caza, Calif.) and sophomore Selina Peng (Taichung, Taiwan) combined for an 8-6 victory over Michelle Fuca (Manchester, Mass.) and Ada Wiggins (Burlington, Mass.) at No. 1 doubles that, at the time, tied the match 1-1. However, after already taking an 8-5 win in No. 2 doubles, Skidmore locked-up an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles to carry a 2-1 lead into doubles play.

Blue sophomore Korina Hernandez (Tampa, Fla.) used a first set tiebreaker to propel herself to a 7-6 (8-6), 6-4 victory over Skidmore junior Laura Swenson (Winnetka, Ill.) at No. 5 singles but the hosts had already clinched the match by the time Hernandez earned the point, taking wins in the top four singles matches to jump to a 6-1 advantage. Skidmore first year Jackie Ahn (Willowbrook, Ill.) then closed out the 7-2 Skidmore win with a narrow 7-6 (7-1), 7-5 victory over Wellesley first year Lily Chu (Princeton, N.J.) at No. 6.

The Blue will look to bounce back with a pair of home matches against local rivals next Saturday and Sunday, March 10 and 11. Wellesley will host Brandeis and 11:00 AM on Saturday and Tufts at 1:00 PM on Sunday.
