WELLESLEY, Mass. – Paced by a pair of three-set victories in the top two singles matches, Wellesley College tennis defeated visiting Wheaton College, 9-0, in a New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) match on Sunday afternoon at Dorothy Towne Fieldhouse.

Wellesley has now won seven of their last eight matches to move to 10-5 overall (3-0 NEWMAC). Wheaton drops to an even 5-5 overall and 1-2 in conference.

Junior Justine Huang (Coto de Caza, Calif.) and sophomore Selina Peng (Taichung, Taiwan) battled to an 8-4 victory in the No. 1 doubles match before each needed three sets to help the Blue earn the sweep in singles. Huang and Peng defeated sophomore Isabelle Garvanne (Los Angeles, Calif.) and junior Ines de Bracamonte (Sunny Isles Beach, Fla.), 8-4, in doubles, but in the No. 1 singles match it was de Bracamonte that opened with a 6-1 victory to take a 1-0 lead on Huang. At No. 2 singles, Peng opened with a big 7-5 victory in a marathon first set after falling into an early hole against Garvanne. Garvanne countered with a 7-6 victory in the second set, winning the tiebreak 7-3, to send the match to a deciding third game. Peng countered in another back-and-forth affair, winning the set and the match with a 7-5 victory.

The Blue cruised through the remaining matches. In doubles, sophomore Korina Hernandez (Tampa, Fla.) and first year Abigail Schleichkorn (Pacific Palisades, Calif.) earned an 8-1 victory over senior Jordi Katz (Needham, Mass.) and junior Connor O'Keefe (Lutz, Fla.) at No. 2 and first years Lily Chu (Princeton, N.J.) and Lizzy Kong (Mason, Ohio) defeated sophomore Harley Swainston (Hudsonville, Mich.) and first year Allison Burton (Hingham, Mass.), 8-3, at No. 3. Kong went on to top Katz, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 3 singles, while Hernandez downed O'Keefe, 6-1, 6-4 in the No. 4 spot.
