Blue Tennis Earns ITA Team Academic Honors, Four Named Scholar-Athletes

The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced its 2019 All-Academic Teams and Scholar-Athletes on Thursday. All-Academic honors were awarded to 940 teams and thousands of scholar-athletes across all five divisions of college tennis, including the Wellesley College tennis program and four members of the Blue team.

The New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) announced the 2019 Women's Tennis All-Conference and Postseason awards on Wednesday and Wellesley College senior Justine Huang (Coto de Caza. Calif.), sophomore Lily Chu (Princeton, N.J.) and first year Micaela Markwart (Hanover, Mass.) have each earned All-Conference Second Team Honors. Chu was selected at No. 6 singles, while Huang and Markwart were named All-Conference at No. 2 doubles. 

Michaela Markwart and the Blue will end the season with a 13-9 record (Frank Poulin).
No. 3 Wellesley Falls To No. 2 Babson in NEWMAC Tennis Semifinals

No. 2 Babson College earned a 5-0 victory over No. 3 Wellesley College in the semifinals of the New England Women’s & Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women’s Tennis Championship on Tuesday afternoon at the Babson Tennis Courts.

With the conclusion of the regular season the New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) announced the seeds for the 2019 Women's Tennis Championship on Tuesday. No. 3 Wellesley College tennis will host No. 6 Springfield College in the Quarterfinals on Saturday, April 27, at 11:00 AM.

First year Michelle Shen clinched the victory with a win at No. 2 singles (Miranda Yang).

Wellesley College tennis picked up victories at No. 1 doubles and No. 1 singles but it wasn’t enough to earn a team victory, as the Blue dropped a 7-2 non-conference final to Tufts University on Friday at the Voute Courts.

Sophomore Lily Chu (Princeton, N.J.) earned a victory at No. 6 singles but Wellesley College tennis dropped an 8-1 final to local rival Babson College in New England Women’s & Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on Wednesday afternoon at the Babson Tennis Courts.

MIT Rallies To Top Wellesley in NEWMAC Tennis Match, 7-2

Wellesley College tennis suffered the team's first New England Women’s & Men’s Athletics Conference (NEWMAC) setback of the season, falling to MIT by a final score of 7-2 on Sunday afternoon inside of the Dorothy Towne Fieldhouse.

The Blue are now 4-0 NEWMAC ahead of a Sunday showdown with MIT (Frank Poulin).
