Wellesley Tennis Tops Smith, Mount Holyoke On Day One at Seven Sisters
POUGHKEEPSIE, NY. -- Wellesley College tennis opened their spring schedule with commanding wins, as the Blue did not drop a set against Smith College and Mount Holyoke College at the Seven Sisters Championships at the Walker Field House on the campus of Vassar College. The Blue are currently tied for first place with Vassar College after one day of competition.

Wellesley did not drop a single set in the match as the Blue picked up their first win of the season over Smith. The doubles pair of senior Rosanne Hu (Sugar Land, Texas) and sophomore Abigail Schleichkorn (Pacific Palisades, Calif.) got the first win of the day over Smith's Gabby Mingolelli and Betsy Hillier in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0. The Blue took a commanding 2-0 lead over Smith after senior Sojin Ki (Irvine, Calif.) defeated Kara Van Allen, 6-0, 6-2. In the 4th singles slot, sophomore Michelle Buyer (Wilmette, Ill) clinched the match win, when she defeated Elsa Hillis, 6-4, 6-2.
First year Libby Chang (San Marino, Calif.) completed the Wellesley sweep as she picked up her first career Seven Sisters victory with a 6-2, 6-2 win over sophomore Allison Ahearn (Minneapolis, Minn) in the first singles match-up. Junior Korina Hernandez (Tampa, Fla.) competed in the second singles match and won 6-1, 6-1, over senior Joanna Kim (Chicago, Ill.).

The Blue used a different lineup in their second match of the Seven Sisters Championships, but the result was the same as Wellesley swept Mount Holyoke to move to 2-0. Wellesley picked up their match win in third singles as first year Michelle Shen (Dallas, Texas) picked up her first win over Mount Holyoke's senior Clara Wang (Madison, Conn.) by a score of 6-0, 6-1. Wellesley jumped out to a 2-0 lead as first year Cinji Lee (Seoul, South Korea) and sophomore Lily Chu (Princeton, N.J.) defeated senior Joy Moran (Sante Fe, N.M.) and first year Annissa Amoun (Dulles, Va.), 6-1, 6-2, in second doubles.
The Blue clinched the match when senior Justine Huang (Coto de Caza, Calif.) won the first singles match over senior Ayame Yazawa (Tokyo, Japan), 6-1, 6-2. Wellesley was not finished even with the match in hand, as first year Libby Chang (San Marino, Calif.) teamed up with junior Selina Peng (Taichung, Taiwan) in the first doubles match to defeat junior Catherine Peabody (San Francisco, Calif.) and sophomore Anya Gerasimova (Salem, Ore.) by a score of 6-2, 6-1. In the last match of the day, first year Michaela Markwart (Hanover, Mass.) and the Lyons' junior Ching-Ching Huang (Lukang Township, Taiwan) battled back and forth into a third set tiebreaker with Markward ultimately claiming the victory, 4-6, 7-5 (10-4).
Wellesley continues the Seven Sisters Championships tomorrow, February 24, against Bryn Mawr at 12:00 PM and then face off against Vassar at 3:00 PM.
