Seven Sisters Champion Wellesley Tennis Sweeps NEWMAC Weekly Awards

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- After claiming the program's 14th Seven Sisters title over the weekend at Vassar, Wellesley College tennis has swept the New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women's Tennis weekly awards. Senior Justine Huang (Coto de Caza, Calif.) has been named the Singles Athlete of the Week, while the sophomore Lily Chu (Princeton, N.J.) and first year doubles partner Cinji Lee (Seoul, South Korea) have been named Doubles Team of the Week.

Huang earns her fourth career NEWMAC Athlete of the Week award after a weekend where she went 3-0 at No. 1 singles and earned All-Tournament honors in the final edition of the Seven Sisters tournament. Huang opened with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Mount Holyoke's Ayame Yazawa on Saturday before battling through third set tiebreaks to defeat Bryn Mawr's Amalia Parrish (7-6, 6-7, 10-4) and Vassar's Frances Cornwall (3-6, 7-6, 10-8) to help the Blue clinch the trophy on Sunday afternoon.

Lily Chu & Cinji Lee | NEWMAC Doubles Team of the Week 

Chu and Lee finished 2-0 at No. 2 doubles during the Seven Sisters tournament, earning a victory on each day of the tournament. Chu and Lee defeated Mount Holyoke's Joy Maran and Annissa Aamoum, 6-1, 6-2, on Saturday and Vassar's Cara Kizilbash and Vista Grinde, 6-4, 6-3, in the de facto Championship match on Sunday. The NEWMAC Weekly honor is the first for both student-athletes. 

Wellesley tennis (4-0 overall) will continue the season on Saturday, March 9, when the Blue travel to take on NYU at 11:00 AM.
