Wellesley Tennis Sweeps Wis.-Oshkosh at USTA National Campus

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Wellesley College tennis snapped a three-match non-conference losing streak with a convincing 9-0 victory over Wisconsin-Oshkosh on Monday evening at the USTA National Campus.

The No. 39 ranked Blue improved to 1-1 on their spring break trip and 6-3 overall with the win. Oshkosh is now 5-5 overall.

Junior Selina Peng (Taichung, Taiwan) and first year Libby Chang (San Marino, Calif.) got the Blue rolling with an 8-2 victory over senior Hannah Peters (Hubertus, Wis.) and junior Samantha Koppa (Cedarburg, Wis.). The Blue jumped to a 2-0 lead when senior Justine Huang (Coto de Caza, Calif.) and first year Michaela Markwart (Hanover, Mass.) defeated junior Alyssa Leffler (Franksville, Wis.) and first year Michelle Spicer (Milwaukee, Wis.), 8-1. 

Senior Rosanne Hu (Sugar Land, Texas) and first year Michelle Shen (Dallas, Texas) completed a Wellesley doubles sweep, downing sophomore Kelley Hodyl (Wheaton, Ill.) and senior Ashlee Polena (Lake Geneva), 8-1. Leading 3-0 after doubles, the Blue clinched the victory over the Titans with victories in the No. 3 and No. 2 doubles matches.

Sophomore Lily Chu (Princeton, N.J.) defeated Koppa, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 3 to give Wellesley a 4-0 lead. Junior Korina Hernandez (Tampa, Fla.) then clinched the match at No. 2, downing Peters, 6-1, 6-3. Wellesley would go on to complete the sweep with victories in the four remaining matched.

At No. 1, Huang turned a 3-2 lead in the first set into a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Hodyl. Senior Tristan Lorich (New York, N.Y.) followed with a 6-2, 6-3 win over first year Ireland Slattery (Kenosha, Wis.) at No. 5 and sophomore Abigail Schleichkorn (WEL) defeated Polena 6-3, 6-3 at No. 6. First year Cinji Lee (Seoul, South Korea) closed out the 9-0 Wellesley win at No. 4, defeating Spicer, 7-5, 6-2. 

Wellesley will close out the team's spring break trip on Tuesday, March 26, with an 11:30 AM match version Pacific (Ore.) at the USTA National Campus.
