WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Wellesley College tennis dropped the team's spring season opener, 6-3, to No. 40 The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) on Sunday at Dorothy Towne Fieldhouse.

The Lions (8-0 overall) swept through doubles play to take an early 3-0 lead. Charlotte Roarty (Interlaken, N.J.) and Jenny Landells (Gwynedd Valley, Pa.) opened with an 8-3 victory over Wellesley's Michaela Markwart (Hanover, Mass.) and Michelle Shen (Dallas, Texas) at No. 2.

TCNJ moved ahead 2-0 when Alexa Vasile (Clinton, N.J.) and Anusha Rangu (East Windsor, N.J.) took an 8-4 win over Lily Chu (Princeton, N.J.) and Cinji Lee (Seoul, South Korea) at No. 3. An 8-5 victory for Liya Davidov (Leonia, N.J.) and Katrine Luddy (Ridgewood, N.J.) over Selina Peng (Taichung, Taiwan) and Libby Chang (San Marino, Calif.) at No. 1 completed the doubles sweep.

In singles play, Markwart and Chang each split their opening sets at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively. However, TCNJ would earn both points from the top two matches, with Davidov rallying to take a 6-0, 4-6, 6-0 win over Markwart and Roarty defeating Chang in a back-and-forth dual, 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 to clinch the win. A 6-3, 6-6 (7-0) victory for Luddy over Shen at No. 3 pushed the Lions ahead 6-0.

Wellesley rallied to sweep the final three singles match-ups to close out the match. Peng picked-up the first Wellesley win at No. 4 singles with a 6-1, 7-5 victory over Vasile. Dana Feng (Irvine, Calif.) followed, defeating Julia Yoon (Ridgewood, N.J.) 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5 singles. Lee pushed the final score to 6-3 with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Landells in the No. 6 singles match.
