Wellesley Tennis Lands Five on NEWMAC Academic All-Conference Squad

WESTWOOD, Mass. - The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) has announced the 2021 Women's Tennis Academic All-Conference Team. A total of 46 student-athletes were selected, including five from the Wellesley College tennis program. Wellesley's five honorees matches a program-high mark from 1998.

Senior Abigail Schleichkorn (Pacific Palisades, Calif.) and junior Libby Chang (San Marino, Calif.) each earned Academic All-Conference recognition for the second time. Schleichkorn graduated with a degree in American Studies and Art History and Chang is an Economics and Statistics major.

Senior Lily Chu (Princeton, N.J.) and juniors Cinji Lee (Seoul, South Korea) and Michaela Markwart (Hanover, Mass.) earned the honor for the first time. Chu earned her degree in Media Arts and Sciences, Lee is a Media Arts and Sciences major, and Markwart is studying Psychology.

This year, the Academic All-Conference Team Award was presented in all of the conference-sponsored sports to all students-athletes who were semester long members of the varsity team, who have achieved second year academic status and have a 3.5 cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale).

Wellesley did not compete during the 2021 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.


The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference consists of 11 highly selective institutions committed to academic excellence: Babson College, Clark University, U.S Coast Guard Academy, Emerson College, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Mount Holyoke College, Smith College, Springfield College, Wellesley College, Wheaton College, and Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
