Blue Tennis Competes at the ITA Regionals in Bowdoin
BRUNSWICK, Maine -- Wellesley College took the courts at Bowdoin College for the ITA Regional on Friday. Two Blue teams competed in the doubles bracket, while five different players competed in the A and B singles draw.
Doubles
Ashleigh Parlman (Acton, Mass.) and Annissa Mu (Saratoga, Calif.) earned their first victory in a 8-3 rout over Caroline Kittle (Indianapolis, Ind.) and Katharine Dougherty (Winchester, Mass.) of Colby College. The team would not be done, winning in the round of 32 in a close 8-5 battle over Amhert's Mia Kintiroglou and Amy Cui. Parlman and Mu will continue in the round of 16 tomorrow morning at 9:00 AM. Melinda Alviar (Indianapolis, Ind.) and Michelle Shen (Dallas, Texas) took care of business in their first match 8-1 over Miriam Galido Cerrada (Madrid, Spain) and Katie Steinberg (Cumberland, Maine) of Wheaton College. The duo then suffered a tough 8-1 loss to Sasha Gaeth (Seattle, Wash.) and Kristina Yu (New Braunfels, Texas) of Wesleyan.
Singles
In the A draw, Parlman continued to dominate the day, winning her round of 64 singles match in a 6-1, 6-0 win over Smith's Jennifer Fan (Vancouver, B.C.). Parlman advanced to the second round of the bracket, where she earned another big victory over Hannah Buckout (Weston, Mass.) 6-2, 6-3. She was the only Blue member to advance to the round of 16. Michaela Markwart (Hanover, Mass.) dropped her lone match to Amy Delman (Great Neck, N.Y.) of Middlebury by a score of 6-1, 6-0. Over in the B draw, Mu had a bye in the opening round but lost her match in the round of 32 to Anna Lowy (Lake Oswego, Ore.) 8-3 of Tufts. Cristiana DeAgazio (Winchester, Mass.) started off with a shutout 8-0 victory in her first round, but couldn't keep the momentum in a close 8-5 loss in the second round. Alviar and Michelle both competed in the B draw, but fell out in the first round.
