Blue Tennis Lands at No. 33 Nationally, No. 12 Regionally in ITA End of Year Rankings

WELLESLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College tennis ended the year ranked No. 33 nationally in the final 2021-22 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division III Collegiate Tennis national rankings, sponsored by Tennis-Point. 

Wellesley, who advanced to the 2022 NEWMAC Semifinals after posting a 7-1 mark in New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) regular season play, also checked in at No. 12 in the Northeast Regional ranking. 

Wellesley's lineup was bolstered all season by the play of sophomore doubles duo Annissa Mu (Saratoga, Calif.) and Melinda Alviar (Indianapolis, Ind.). Mu and Alviar went 9-5 overall record and 5-2 in conference play, winning five NEWMAC Doubles Team of the Week Honors to conclude the season ranked No. 7 in doubles in the ITA Northeast Regional Rankings.

Mu and Alivar also earned NEWMAC All-Conference honors in singles as six Wellesley student-athletes in all earned NEWMAC All-Conference recognition this spring, including Michelle Shen (Dallas, Texas), Cristiana DeAgazio (Winchester, Mass.), Michaela Markwart (Hanover, Mass.) and Libby Chang (San Marino, Calif.).

Wellesley finished the 2021-22 season, the 13th under Head Coach Brian Kuscher, with a 10-6 overall record.
