Tennis Picks Up Three Wins on First Day of Wellesley Invitational

BABSON PARK, Mass. - Wellesley College tennis opened its three-day Wellesley Invitational on Friday with doubles matches against Babson, Merrimack, and Stonehill at the Babson Tennis Courts.

Wellesley juniors Annissa Mu (Saratoga, Calif.) and Melinda Alviar (Indianapolis, Ind.) opened with an 8-6 win over Stonehill's team of Cristina Solorzano Valencia (Morelia, Mexico) and Steffi Antao (New Hyde Park, N.Y.). The Wellesley duo later faced-off against Babson's Olivia Soffer (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and Matia Cristiani (Miami, Fla.), with the Beavers winning 8-1. 

Junior Cristiana DeAgazio (Winchester, Mass.) and first-year Isabella DeAgazio (Winchester, Mass.) played their first two collegiate matches together. The siblings lost a competitive first match 8-6 to Giulia Martins Cavalcante and Caitlin McGloughlin of Merrimack. In their second match of the day, the DeAgazio's took on Stonehill's Lindsay Macdonald (South Yarmouth, Mass.) and Gabrielle Lindsay (Bloomington, Minn.), with the Wellesley duo taking an 8-4 win to finish the day 1-1. 

Junior Jennifer Fan teamed up with first-year Emilee Pak, who played her first career matches for the Blue. The duo lost an 8-7(7-4) epic to Babson's Mariana Campos (Houston, Texas) and Elena Keitt (Austin, Texas). Pak would play her second match with senior Celeste Tran (Los Altos, Calif.) against Ashley Stefanik (North Attleboro, Mass.) and Luisa Eslava (Bogotá, Colombia) of Merrimack. Pak and Tran scored a big 8-1 victory for the Blue.

Fan also paired up with Merrimack's Allyson Nerf (Boca Raton, Fla.) as a hybrid team due to a withdrawal. The pairing battled Stonehill's team of Solorzano Valencia and Antao, with the Skyhawks winnning 8-1.

Singles match play will begin tomorrow at 11:00 AM. All seven members of the Blue are slated to play two matches each.
