Zhou Wins 10,000 as Blue Track & Field Competes at AIC

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- The Wellesley College track and field team opened up the 2014 outdoor season with six top-10 finishes at the Yellow Jacket Invitational. The event was hosted by American International College on Saturday.

First-year
Alice Zhou highlighted the day with a for the Blue, while sophomore Sharon Ng and first-year Isabella Narvaez also recorded scoring finishes for Wellesley.

Zhou bested eight competitors in the 10,000 meter event, running a time of 39:09.33. Her time qualified her to compete in the ECAC, New England Division III, and Open New England Championships later this season.

Ng finished the 800 meter event ranked fifth overall. Her time of 2:23.72 ranked her second among all Division-III competition in the 68-runner field. Narvaez recorded a sixth place finish in the 400-meter dash. Her time of 1:00.19 ranked her as the best Division-III runner in the field of 37.

Also recording top-10 finishes for the Blue were sophomore Caitlin Bailey, junior Kendra Waters, and Wellesley's 4x100-meter relay team. Bailey finished seventh in the 400 hurdles, recording a time of 1:10.21, while Waters was 10th in the 400-meter dash in 1:01.59. The Blue's relay effort was ninth overall in a time of 51.41, setting a new Wellesley record.

In the 5,000-meter event, seniors
Doris Berman and Skye Roberts finished 11th and 18th overall. Berman ran a 19:13.07, while Roberts completed the race in 20:09.96. Ng (5:00.14) led the Wellesley pack in the 1,500-meter run, finished 17th overall, while sophomore Alessandra Gavin (5:05.10), and junior Nicole Chui (5:10.10) finished in 23rd and 30th places. 

Wrapping up the Wellesley highlights, were several solid field performances. First-year
Emma Scalisi finished 12th overall in the triple jump, with a 9.58m, while senior Sheena Dupuy was 22nd in the long jump with a best of 4.66m. 

Wellesley track and field is back in action at the Brown Invitational on Saturday.
