Blue Track & Field Impresses at Saturday's NE DIII Championships

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. -- Wellesley College track and field registered multiple ECAC and All-New England qualifying times on Saturday at the New England Division III Championships at Smith College.

The Blue competed in eleven different events, finishing 15th overall out of the 35 Division III teams at Saturday's meet. 

First year Abena Asare continued an outstanding rookie campaign, qualifying for the ECAC Indoor Championships in both the Triple Jump and the High Jump. Asare set a new school record in the Triple Jump with her score of 10.93m. She then went on to finish fourth in the High Jump, setting another second school record with a mark of 1.60m 

Isabella Narvaez and Mary Keenan both registered All-New England qualifying times, while five different members of the Wellesley College track and field team qualified for the upcoming ECAC Indoor Championships.  

Narvaez took third in the 400 meter run with an All-New England and ECAC Qualifying time of 58.82, while Keenan captured fifth place in the 3,000 meter run with a time of 10:19.81, also good for an All-New England and ECAC qualifying mark.

Sophomore Edie Sharon also grabbed an ECAC qualifying time in the 3,00 meter run, taking 12th place with a personal best time of 10:35.79. 

Junior Sharon Ng and first year Isabella King also added ECAC qualifying times before the day was over. Ng took tenth in the 800 meter run, setting a personal record with a time of 2:18.88. King then finished 15th in the 1000 meter run with a time of 3:07.45.

The Blue's All-New England qualifiers will return to action next weekend at the cross divisional 2015 NEICAAA Indoor Championships at Boston University's Track & Tennis Center.
