Track & Field In Action At Tufts Stampede, BU Terrier Classic

BOSTON, Mass. — Seven members of the Wellesley College track & field team were in action on Friday evening, on day one of the Tufts University Stampede at the Gantcher Family Sports and Convocation Center and at the cross divisional John Thomas Terrier Classic held at the Boston University Track & Tennis Center.

Sophomore Abena Asare (Berlin, N.J.) made Wellesley's first appearance of the weekend at the Tufts Stampede. Asare didn't disappoint, earning runner-up honors in the pentathlon thanks to a 2913 point performance. Asare's day included a first place leap of 5.47m to earn 691 points in the long jump. She also cleared 1.56m to take runner-up and 689 points in the high jump. A time of 10.12 in the 60m hurdles earned Asare 690 points and a top-three finish.

Across town, the Blue participated in four events through the afternoon and evening at the Terrier Classic, beginning with junior Isabella Narvaez's (Cali, Colombia) appearance in the 400m Dash. Narvaez clocked in with the 43rd fastest time in the field of 141 competitors, posting a time of 57.87. Narvaez was third in her heat behind a pair of Division I competitors. 

Senior Caitlin Bailey (Old Forge, N.Y.) was the next member of the Blue to take to the track, competing in the 500m Dash. Bailey put together a time of 1:22.43 to finish third in the 15th of 16 heats in the event. 

The Blue entered a pair of competitors in both the Mile and 3000m Run. Senior Sharon Ng (Sunnyvale, Calif.) was the top finisher for Wellesley in the Mile, as she finished in the top-50 with 44th place time of 5:08.06. Classmate Priyanka Fouda (Wellesley, Mass.) took 80th out of 164 in the event with time of 5:20.49. Juniors Sonja Cwik (La Cañada, Calif.) and Mary Keenan (Boerne, Texas) closed out Wellesley's evening at the Terrier Classic with appearances in the 3000m Run. Kennan logged Wellesley's top mark with a time of 10:25.80 (56th overall), while Cwik checked in at 10:37.17 (71st).
