MEDFORD, Mass. – Wellesley College track & field totaled 41 points to finish fifth in the team standings at the Tufts Stampede on Saturday afternoon at the Gantcher Center on the campus of Tufts University.

Division II Stonehill edged out the host Jumbos to take the team title, as the Skyhawks racked up 173.50 points. Tufts finished with 168.50 points, while Wesleyan took third with 118 points. Southern Connecticut State (73 points) and the Blue rounded out the top five.

Wellesley opened the day with eight points, thanks to sophomore Abena Asare's (Berlin, N.J.) runner-up performance in the pentathlon on Friday evening.

Asare returned on Saturday to win Wellesley 10 more points in the long jump, taking first place in the event. Asare also finished as the only competitor to jump beyond 5.00m, with a winning leap of 5.12m.

Junior Isabella Narvaez (Cali, Colombia) added six more points to the Wellesley total on the strength of her third place finish in the 200m Dash. Narvaez clocked in at 26.68 in the finals of the event. She also just missed the final of the 60m Dash, finishing ninth overall with a time of 8.36 in the preliminaries.

Wellesley would add five more points in the Mile, thanks to junior Edie Sharon's (Winchester, Mass.) fourth place time of 5:23.24. Sharon's performance was just the first notable finish for the Blue in the distance events.

The Blue followed by grabbing seven more points in the 3000m Run, as senior Alessandra Gavin (Annapolis, Md.) took fifth, in 10:44.20, and classmate Carolyn Chelius (Haddonfield, N.J.) took seventh, in 11:08.32, to give the Blue two of the top eight finishers in the event. Senior Sara Vannah (Amherst, Mass.) added a ninth place time of 11:11.81 to give Wellesley three of the top ten.

Junior Emma Scalisi (Waltham, Mass.) would go on to earn Wellesley point number 41 in the triple jump, finishing eighth at 9.59m.

The Blue will head back to Tufts on Saturday, February 6, for the Tufts Cupid Challenge beginning at 10:00 AM.
