Ng Delivers Standout Mile Time as Track & Field Competes at Cupid Challenge

MEDFORD, Mass. – Wellesley College track & field returned to the Gantcher Family Sports and Convocation Center at Tufts University for the second consecutive Saturday, competing this weekend in the Tufts Cupid Challenge. There was no team scoring at the meet.

In the Mile, senior Sharon Ng (Sunnyvale, Calif.) ran to a time of 5:01.28. Only Randelle Boots '13, the 2011 Indoor Mile National Champion, has run a faster time in a Wellesley Blue uniform. Ng took sixth in the event, however, her time from Saturday is currently the 10th fastest time in Division III this season.

Abena Asare (Berlin, N.J.) continued her standout sophomore campaign by winning the long jump for the second time in as many weeks, while also setting a new school record in the 60m Dash. Asare jumped to a first place distance of 5.35m in her signature event before breaking the school record time held by teammate Isabella Narvaez (Cali, Colombia) with a time of 8.19 in the 60m Dash.

Narvaez, meanwhile, earned two first place finishes of her own on Saturday, in both the 200m Dash and the 400m Dash. The junior ran to a time of 26.24 in the 200m, currently ranking her 27th in Division III. Narvaez won the 400m with a time of 58.79.

Junior Mary Keenan (Boerne, Texas) was the next to add a Division III top-25 time for Wellesley on Saturday, leading a pack of seven Blue runners in the 5,000m Run with a time of 17:52.81.

In the weight throw, first year Helen Andersen (Madison, N.J.) took ninth, breaking her own school record with a toss of 11.30m. Andersen was also eleventh in the shot put at 9.24m.

The Blue also received top-five performances from junior Sonja Cwik (La Cañada, Calif.) in the 800m Run and sophomore Priscilla Lee (Anaheim, Calif.) in the High Jump. Cwik was fourth in the 800m at 2:21.19, while Lee cleared 1.52m to take fourth in the High Jump.

Wellesley track & field continues the 2015-16 indoor campaign next Friday and Saturday, February 12-13, at Boston University's David Hemery Valentine Invitational. Wellesley will also compete at MIT's Gordon Kelly Invitational on Saturday.
