Top-Eight Performances Highlight Day Two Of ECACs For Track & Field

WESTFIELD, Mass. – Wellesley College track & field closed out the 2016 ECAC Championships and the 2016 regular season on Thursday afternoon at Westfield State University's Jerry Gravel Track.

Wellesley finished the meet with a total of five All-ECAC top-eight performances, taking 16th overall in the team standings.

Wellesley's top performance on Thursday came from sophomore Abena Asare (Berlin, N.J.). Asare took third overall in the long jump, leaping to a distance of 5.57m on her fifth attempt to garner All-ECAC recognition. Asare currently ranks 13th in NCAA DIII in the long jump.

The Blue earned two All-ECAC performances and a pair of personal records in the 1500m. Senior Sharon Ng (Sunnyvale, Calif.) and junior Mary Keenan (Boerne, Texas) finished in sixth and seventh, respectively. Ng ran to a personal best time of 4:35.62, while Keenan was right behind her with a time of 4:37.63, also a personal best.

In the 400m, junior Isabella Narvaez (Cali, Colombia) added a season best time to garner the Blue's fifth All-ECAC time of the meet. Narvaez ran to a time of 57.02 to take fifth overall. She also ran in the 200m, clocking in at 25.76 to take 12th.  

Also in action on Thursday, first year Cathy Chen (Parsippany, N.J.) ran to a time of 1:07.57 in the 400m Hurdles, finishing 20th overall. Finally, the Blue closed out the meet with a time of 9:31.06 in the 4x800m relay thanks to the team of senior Caitlin Bailey (Old Forge, N.Y.), junior Sonja Cwik (La Canada, Calif.), senior Alessandra Gavin (Annapolis, Md.) and Ng.

The Blue will now await word on qualifiers for the 2016 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & field Championships. This spring's championships will be held May 26-28 at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa.
