UPDATED: Asare, Keenan Headed Back to NCAA Track & Field Championships

WELLESLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College track & field sophomore Abena Asare (Berlin, N.J.) and junior Mary Keenan (Boerne, Texas) will represent the Blue at the 2016 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships, Thursday-Saturday, May 26-28, at Wartburg College's Walston Hoover Stadium in Waverly, Iowa.

Asare will compete in the Long Jump and Keenan will compete in the 5000m Run. Each will be making a return trip to the NCAA championships after also taking part in the NCAA Championships in 2015.

Asare will be in action on the meet's opening day, Thursday, May 26 at (Updated Time) 12:30 PM (1:30 PM Eastern). The two-time New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Long Jump champion, Asare qualified for the national meet thanks to her leap of 5.73m at the NEWMAC Championships and is currently ranked 16th in the NCAA. Earlier this year, she garnered All-American honors in the indoor long jump with a fourth place finish at the NCAA indoor championships thanks to a jump of 5.77m. The Wellesley school record holder in both the indoor and outdoor long jump, Asare was ninth at last year's NCAA outdoor championships with a leap of 5.71m. 

Following a tenth place finish in 2015, Keenan will compete in the 5000m on Saturday, May 28 at 4:25 PM (5:25 PM Eastern). Last spring, Keenan ran to a time of 17:34.67. The Wellesley junior is ranked 22nd in the NCAA in the event after qualifying for this spring's NCAA Championships with a time of 17:05.65 at Connecticut College's Silfen Invitational on April 4. Her time of 17:05.65 is the second best mark in Wellesley school history, trailing only Jennifer Kegel's ('88) time of 16:49.5, set in 1988.
