Keenan Earns All-American Honors At NCAA Track & Field Championships

WAVERLY, Iowa – Wellesley College track & field junior Mary Keenan finished in eighth place in the 5000m run to earn the first All-American honor of her career at the 2016 NCAA Division III Track & Field Championships on Saturday at Wartburg College's Walston Hoover Stadium.

Keenan turned in a solid time of 17:12.74, as she held her place among a pack of five runners through the final three laps to cross the line eighth in her second NCAA appearance in the 5000m. Keenan now has two top-ten national finishes in the 5000m, after finishing 10th in the event in 2015. Stevens Institute junior Amy Regan (Green Brook, N.J.) took home the 2016 5000m national championships with a time of 16:27.32.

Keenan entered Saturday's race ranked 22nd in the field thanks to her time of 17:05.65 at this spring's Connecticut College Silfen Invitational. She holds the second fastest mark in school history behind the school record time of 16:49.5 set by Jennifer Kegel '88 in 1988.

Today's race concludes the 2015-2016 season for Keenan and the Wellesley College track & field team.
