Wellesley Track & Field Competes at Tufts Cupid Challenge
MEDFORD, Mass. -- Junior Isabella King (Cincinnati, Ohio) took home first place in the 800m, as Wellesley College track & field competed at the Tufts Cupid Challenge on Saturday at Gantcher Fieldhouse. There was no team scoring at the meet.
King took first in the 800m with a time of 2:28.30, earning one of eight top-five finishes for the Blue at Saturday's event. She would later complete her day at the Cupid Challenge by helping the Blue to a runner-up performance in the 4 x 800m relay, teaming with first year Eva Paradiso (Burlington, Vt.), junior Taylor Fortnam (Portola Valley, Calif.) and senior Sonja Cwik (La Canada, Calif.) for a time of 10:32.73.
Cwik delivered one of the finest performances of the day for the Blue, cruising to a personal record and New England Division III (NE DIII) qualifying time of 5:09.22 in the Mile. Cwik's effort in the Mile comes just one week after she ran to a new personal record in the 3000m at the BU Terrier Classic. Also competing in the Mile, Fortnam and first year Fiona Harrigian (San Marino, Calif.) each finished in the top-ten, taking ninth and tenth with times of 5:33.25 and 6:02.46, respectively.
In the 3000m, senior Edie Sharon (Winchester, Mass.) was eighth with an NE DIII qualifying time of 10:34.68. Sharon was the leader of a Wellesley contingent that also included sophomore Catherine Xie (Newton, Mass.) and first year Sarah Halabe (Los Altos, Calif.). Xie finished in 23rd place (11:44.14), while Halabe took 27th (12:15.55)
Senior Isabella Narvaez (Cali, Colombia) added top-five finishes in the finals of 200m and the 600m, as well as the preliminaries of the 60m. All three times were NE DIII qualifying marks, as Narvaez registered a time of 26.75 in the 200m, 1:39.58 in the 600m and 8.17 seconds in the 60m prelims. Also in the 200m, first year Hannah Knoll (Boise, Idaho) added a time of 31.93 (20th). Knoll was also a top-ten finisher in the 60m Hurdles with a time of 11.16 seconds.
Senior Emma Scalisi (Waltham, Mass.) represented the Blue in both the Long Jump and the Triple Jump, while junior Priscilla Lee (Anaheim, Calif.) took part in the High Jump and joined Scalisi in the Long Jump. Scalisi matched her overall career best in the Long Jump, and set a new indoor best, with a sixth place leap of 4.79m. The Wellesley senior was also the runner-up in the Triple Jump at 10.24m, notching the first of two top-five finishes, as Lee went on to take third in the High Jump at 1.47m. Lee also recorded a jump of 4.14m in the Long Jump.
Sophomore Helen Anderson (Madison, N.J.) and first year Crystalina Guo (Montgomery, N.J.) continued to lead the Blue in both the Shot Put and the Weight Throw on Saturday. Andersen took down her own school record in the Weight Throw with a mark of 12.47m to take fourth overall, while Guo was ninth with a distance of 11.14m. In the Shot Put, Guo was the top Wellesley finisher in seventh with a toss of 10.00m, while Anderson was ninth (8.80m). Senior Susannah Perkins (Ottsville, Pa.) and first year Silvie Coheleach (Bernardsville, N.J.) added to a successful day in the two throwing events, with Perkins taking 13th (8.15m) in the Shot Put and 14th (9.94m) in the Weight Throw and Coheleach finishing 12th (10.10m) in the Weight Throw.
Blue track & field will compete next weekend at Boston University's David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Friday and Saturday, February 10 and 11, at the BU Track & Tennis Center, as well as the MIT Invitational on Saturday in Cambridge.
