Blue Track & Field Competes at Tufts Branwen Smith-King Invite

MEDFORD, Mass -- Sophomore Grace Cowles (Yarmouth, Maine) and first year Maya Bradbury (Freeport, Maine) both set new PRs and finished in the top-ten with New England DIII qualifying times in the Mile to help lead the Wellesley on the track at the Branwen-Smith King Invitational at Tufts University on Saturday afternoon. Cowles, finished fourth, crossing the finish line at 5:18.97, while Bradbury finished eighth, at 5:22.79.

Senior Helen Andersen (Madison, N.J.) lowered her own indoor school record in the shot put with a mark of 11.30m on her first attempt, finishing sixth overall. Andersen's mark of 11.30m qualified her for the New England DIII Championships. Andersen was also 12th in the weight throw with a mark of 13.04m. 

The Blue finished with two in the top-15 in the 60m Hurdles with senior Cathy Chen (Parsippany, N.J) coming in 13th and sophomore Rachel Berets (Belmont, Mass) placing one spot ahead of her in 12th, with a mere .001 of a second separating the two teammates (10.344 and 10.345 seconds).

Leading the Wellesley pack of runners in the 3000m run was junior Eva Paradiso (Burlington, Vt), who finished in eighth with a time of 10:59.69. Right behind her was first year Ariana Marks (Eagle Point, Ore.) who finished 15th in a time of 11:10.25.

Wellesley finished the day with four more top-15 finishes in various events. First year Ava Yokanovich (Stillwater, Minn.) earned Wellesley a team point in the 400m dash with a final time of 1:02.03. Yokanovich was also the top Wellesley finisher in the 200m dash with a time of 28.20, which was good for 15th place overall and first in her heat. Junior Liz Wegman (East Sandwich, Mass) set a new PR in the 800m while finishing 12th with a time of 2:30.04.

Wellesley will head back to Tufts on Saturday, February 2nd for the Tufts Cupid Challenge.
